A few weeks back a few colleagues and I were fortunate enough to ride in one of these old checkered cabs on our way to a work outing. We had a blast, as Taxi Ray old stories of old; from personal military conquests to historic stories of NYC. Ray has been driving cabs for well over 50+ years, and this cab was a relic...it had enough room in the back for all 4 of us, plus maybe 1-2 more people, with two swivel seats that came out of the floor of the cab. Ray was great...such a kind and sweet old man, and I could tell that he thoroughly enjoyed what he did. He didn't charge us a normal cab fare, but kindly asked us for whatever we wanted to give him for the ride. We even took a pic outside of the cab!
Unfortunately, poor Taxi Ray has come on hard times. It was reported yesterday that Taxi Ray has had his car seized. You see, Ray isn't registered with the TLC, and doesn't own a medallion, which can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Anyhoo, poor Ray! Here's a link to the article: Taxi Ray Has Taxi Seized.
